PROGRAM NOTES:

The hymn “Children of the Heavenly Father” is so filled with beautiful meaning. I wrote this cantata to express in greater detail some of those ideas.

STATEMENT OF FAITH:

I decided to follow Jesus when I was seven years old. As I grew in faith I also grew with love for Scripture. Through all my life’s situations God has been with me, even though there were times I didn’t feel it. When I decided to begin study of composition (at age 40), I decided to also study theology, because I want my music to be true. My hope is that, somehow, God can use my music for His purposes.

BIO:

Barbara Anne Koenen Holm: While attending the Boston Conservatory’s Graduate Program to study flute performance, Barbara discovered the joy of composition. After graduation, she studied with composer Larry T Bell in Boston. Later, she studied with Chris Granias and with Carol Barnett in Minneapolis. She has also studied on her own. She founded Holm Legacy Publishing in 2006, where she self-publishes her music. Her compositions include music for flute, string quartet, trio (flute, violin, cello), voice, piano, choir, and orchestra. Musicians have found her music through the Holm Legacy Publishing web site, as well as the American Music Center, and so it has been performed in various places in North America, Australia, and Europe. It has been performed by The Lake String Quartet (Minneapolis), The Saint Paul Civic Symphony, and the Legacy Ensemble (Minneapolis). The Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra (Texas) performed her “Overture” for orchestra in 2013.
